Brooklyn Grange Farm is a rooftop farm complete with chickens and an apiary (bee yard where hives are kept). It operates on the rooftops of two buildings at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The space extends over 2.5 acres, produces over 50,000 pounds of organically-grown vegetables a year and is home to New York City’s largest apiary with over 30 honey-bee hives.
In addition to the amazing urban farming, they also host movie screenings, organic dinners, concerts, and yoga classes! Before I participated in their weekly rooftop yoga class yesterday I took a moment to snap some shots of the amazing space around me. Take a look at what I saw:
